TOYS: OVER THE TOP ACTION FIGURES

I am not going to lie to you, Over the Top is up there as one of my least favorite Stallone movies but no where near as bad as Rocky V. Over the Top was a movie made in 1987 Starring Sylvester Stallone as an arm wrestling truck driver who takes part in a tournament in Las Vegas.

The movie got mixed reviews from movie goers and Stallone fans alike. Some really liked it and others thought it plain sucked. Either way a toy company called LEWCO made some pretty sweet ass action figures of the characters in the movie. I can't seem to find out much about this company apart from some old news paper clipping from 1990 where they released some Sesame Street toys which had to be recalled for being too dangerous.

The action figures are really cool and have about 7 points of articulation and are about 6 inches in height. The figures also have a winding device on their backs which enables them to arm wrestle each other when there are 2 players to operate the figures.

In order to make the figures have a proper arm wrestling match you need the official Over the Top arm wrestling table by Lewco. The figures attach to this and this is where they do battle so it is kind of essential really, like the WWF Hasbro ring.

Although we now have everything we need to commence battle there is one little (major) drawback.. this toy is not very practical and doesn't quite work the way it should. The figures have a real hard time locking hands together and staying attached to the table. I am no expert but I am sure that if that happened in real life arm wrestling it would be an absolute disaster.

An extra large version of Stallone's character from the movie was released in doll form. This is really cool and something I would love to have in my collection!

The Over the Top line of toys and action figures were off the shelves as fast as they got there and have become extremely rare to find. Each figure loose is well over £20 and boxed you are looking at £80 plus and even the table with no stickers can be a bit steep, so please keep this in mind if you want to start building a collection. Over all these are really cool 1980's action figures which look like the characters they are portraying and have cool accessories (even if they don't work that well). These guys are definitely another awesome toy series which got buried in time and became Lost Entertainment gems!
