FEEL GOOD MONDAYS II: MIAMI VICE IN THE AIR TONIGHT

People may mug this scene off but these are also the type of people that think CSI is a great program. So Miami Vice was the most successful cop show from the 1980's. A colorful mix of Miami's glitz and glamor and one of the most killer soundtracks of all time.

The show featured Crocket, Tubbs, fast cars, speed boats, guns and an alligator called Elvis. Today Lost Entertainment shares with you as a part of Fell Good Monday one of the coolest scenes in TV history. Crocket and Tubbs are about to take down the drug baron Carl Derone. Carl Derone killed Tubbs partner back in New York and the chase has led him to Miami with a new partner named Sonny Crocket. Sonny is going through divorce proceedings at the time and just before the two embark on the most dangerous mission of their lives Sonny pulls over the convertible and uses the payphone. He calls his wife to ask her one question "was it real?". Phil Collins in the Air Tonight is playing in the background which makes this goosebumps central.

Happy Monday

GAMING: THE OLYMPIC (VIDEO) GAMES

So tomorrow is the beginning of the 2012 London Olympics. It feels as if I am one of the only people looking forward to the events. When you speak to anyone about the Olympics they reply with such fury about the inconvenience of having tourists visiting London in large numbers. I don't see what all the fuss is about really, I would understand peoples concerns if it were a massive load of sex offenders being unleashed  onto the British shores! London is always busy and full of tourists anyway and plus it is only for a few weeks. Mind you the British are nation which yearly grinds to a halt if 2 centimeters of snow sets on the floor. Anyway enough of me moaning about British people moaning and onto the subject at hand which is Olympic related video games. I wont be reviewing all of the athletics games ever to be released but just the ones I have owned.

BARCELONA 92 OLYMPIC GOLD FOR SEGA MEGADRIVE

It is hard to believe that 2 decades have passed since the Barcelona Olympic games. I also can not believe that my life has not changed that much since then as I still enjoy reading comics, playing Sega. eating Coco Pops and annoying the cat. One of Britain's heroes from this event attended my secondary school (West Hatch in Chigwell Essex) a few years before I attended. All our teachers would harp on and on about how great Sally Gunnel was in assembly, and how shit and pathetic we all were and how we could never win a gold medal. I remember a music teacher called Mr Brooks used to harp on and on about he how taught Sally Gunnel how to play the triangle or some bollocks. I remember one of my class mates pointed out that she was famous for her athletic skills and not her musical ones.. he was then sent out of class.

For the record thanks to the new X-Box 360 London 2012 video game I did not only go on to win 1 gold medal but I won 10! So smoke that Sally Gunnel!

Anyway for the 1992 Olympic games they released a Sega Megadrive video game of the events. At the time it seemed really cool but replaying it now is a very horrific experience. Even the opening scene starts off bad and slopes down from there. When the badly animated character lights up the Olympic torch the sound effect resembles that of someone doing a massive fart down a drainpipe.

The game only features 7 events which isn't too bad when you take the games release date into consideration. There is 400 meters sprints, the hammer throw, archery, hurdles, pole vault, springboard and freestyle swimming.

The gameplay was awful and just involved bashing the fuck out of your control pad. Apart from the archery, running and swimming events the games controls don't work what so ever. The game is 2 decades old and I have never been able to get the hammer out of the cage once. I also think that it would be easier to learn how to springboard dive at a national level in real life than it would to do a successful dive on this fucking game.

Replaying this game did not bring back any good memories apart from the background music sounding like a soundtrack from a 70's porn film which is always amusing. Fuck this game!

INTERNATIONAL TRACK AND FIELD 2 PLAYSTAION

International Track and Field 2 was the first ever athletics game I ever really enjoyed. Me and my best friend Steve used to play this religiously in the year 2000.

I have so many great memories of this game and how competitive it got trying to get the better of each other. We used to have wagers on the events with some of the most absurd forfeits ever. One I remember very well was if you lost the events you were never allowed to fantasize about Stephanie Mcmahon ever again while masturbating. Absurd and weird on so many levels just like the rest of my life.

The game featured many events including 100 meters sprint, 400 meter, hurdles, springboard diving, weight lifting, gymnastics, canoeing, cycling, javelin and many more. The game was essentially an arcade style button basher but it was presented so well that the game was fun and very addictive.

Visually the game was great for its time and was very well put together in terms of graphics and sound. International Track and Field 2 will always have a place in my game collection. I also still have the memory card from 2000 with all of our records on there,

LONDON 2012 THE OLYMPIC GAMES X BOX 360 AND PS3

The brand new Olympics video game from Sega is the greatest athletics game ever released. I do not know where to start as there is so much great aspects of this game. Ok lets start with the control system, which is a very simple button mashing system in which you have to keep a power bar full just above a line. If you go to mental with the button bashing your athlete will gas out and will not be able to win the event. The idea is all about rhythm, timing and technique.

The games visual presentation of this game is top notch. The game brings the events, the athletes and the city of London to life in magnificent style. The games commentary and voice overs are also fantastic and really make you feel like you are watching a real life broadcast.

The games replay value is very good and with over 20 events to choose from plus X Box live and Playstation Network modes make this game very competitive online. The gameplay is fantastic and can be enjoyed by gamers of any age. Get this game and enjoy the events!

FREE COMIC FRIDAYS

Free comic Fridays will commence as of next week which will feature a full free comic for you all to read on Lost Entertainment. Also remember to search the archives using the sites online search engine to catch up on anything you've missed.

There will be more episodes of the Lost Entertainment Podcast, Project Overkill and the SAK Classic Rock Show in the coming months. The reason for delay is due to scheduling a right time to do the shows with my other co hosts. The next Project Overkill Episode will feature a band to co host the show with me and choose their own playlist but at the moment like I said earlier it is just a matter of getting everyone together at a convenient time to do the show.

HALLOWEEN

On September the 1st the site is getting a new make over for the count down to Halloween. During the lead up to the scariest night of the year Lost Entertainment will be going on an all out monsterfest reviewing and writing about some of the coolest horror topics known to man. Movies like Dawn of the Dead, Evil Dead, Halloween and many more will be featured as well as horror related toys, books and other related products. I will also be doing a special Halloween podcast for the event also.

GAMING: GTA VICE CITY SECRETS, EASTER EGGS AND OTHER INTERESTING FINDS

Grand Theft Auto Vice City was the greatest game to ever be made. I cannot believe it has been a decade since the game was released. I have a theory that no one realized  just how cool the 80's was until Vice City was made.

Today I am going to be showing you some of the secrets and easter eggs which can be found while exploring the fictional version of Miami.

For those not in the know about video game easter eggs I will quickly explain. Easter eggs are small secrets that video game developers hide inside games for gamers to discover. A lot of the time easter eggs are secret levels which can be found by jumping through walls or stumbling upon hidden areas.

Another form of easter eggs are in-game props that reference popular movies and TV shows. For example in Duke Nukem 3d there is a hidden stage where you can find a Terminator endoskeleton in a hydraulic press. In Metal Gear Solid on Playstation 1 you can find many easter eggs such as a Playstation console in one of the labs and when taking pictures with the camera in certain spots ghostly images of the games developers appear.

Now that I have explained what easter eggs are lets take a trip to Vice City and check out the many secrets and pop culture nods to be found.

ACTUAL EASTER EGG

The first easter egg is in actual fact.. an easter egg. This can be found by going to the roof on the second island which has a news helicopter on the helipad. If you jump through a wall near by you will land inside and be greeted with this easter egg.

MAKING THE MOON BIGGER

This is a simple one. Just equip any kind of sniper Rifle and shoot the Moon to make it change size.

RUDE LIGHTING

Near the Malibu club there is a building which when lit up at night looks like a massive cock. There is a fountain at the top which shoots water out every 15 seconds just for good measure!

COLD WAR EASTER EGG

In the downtown branch of Ammunation there is a picture of Ronald Reagan holding a pistol and one of president Gorbachev cowering next to it.

THE GUY WITH THE CEMENT SHOES

In the water near the downtown and golf course area there is a guy in the sea with cement shoes. There was a rumor that this was Gonzalez a character who you whack earlier on in the game with the chainsaw.

ZOMBIE ELVIS DODO

In GTA III there were newspapers floating around the city with the front page covering a story about a zombie Elvis. In Vice City sometimes a plane will fly past with a banner covering the same story.

ROCKSTAR CONSTELLATION IN THE SKY

This is an easter egg which is in many Rockstar games. In the night sky the Rockstar logo is displayed in the stars.

VILLAGE PEOPLE

In the Malibu club the cast of the Village Peoples YMCA music video can be spotted dancing on stage. They can also be shot in the face for good measure.

MIAMI VICE

Get a 4 star wanted level and a Ferarri type car will pull up with two detectives who look like Corcket and Tubbs from Miami Vice.

MOON LANDING HOAX

Ever since man landed on the moon there has always been the theory that the whole thing was a hoax. In the movie studio in Vice City there is a set with the moon landing set up.

SWIMMING POOLS

When viewing the swimming pools on Starfish Island from above you will notice that they are all different shapes. One is shaped like the Rockstar logo and another is shaped like a woman in a bikini.. guess where they placed the diving board?

SUBMARINE

A submarine can be spotted underwater just north of the Northpoint Mall.

IRON MAIDEN

In the Rock City record store in the downtown area there is a modified Iron Maiden poster with a Scottish Beret and the words "Jock Star" underneath.

KAUFMAN CABS

The cab company in Vice City is called Kaufmans. This is a reference to the late comedian Andy Kaufman who played Latka in the 70's sitcom Taxi.

TOP FUN

The vans which trigger the RC missions have the logo "TOP FUN" on the side. This of course is a nod to the 1986 blockbuster Top Gun.

ROMERO'S FUNERAL DIRECTORS

In the Little Haiti district there is the Romero funeral company. Behind the pizza shop you can also find 2 empty graves and 1 with a one armed skeleton. The hearse in the game is also called the Romero, all of these are a nod to the director George A Romero who made the living dead movies. There is also a Romero butcher shop nearby.

AIR GUITARS

Across the street from the strip club there is a guitar store that is advertising an air guitar for £199.

DELOREAN

After completing the list at Sunshine Auto's you will unlock a car which is a replica of the one from Back to the Future. Cant remember what it is called in the game though.

ESCOBAR INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

The airport in the game is named after the most famous cocaine dealer in history Pablo Escobar.

SUICIDAL PEDESTRIAN

During the mission where you have to fire the machine gun out of the helicopter while Lance Pilots it, a pedestrian jumps off one of the connecting bridges.

FRANKIE T SHIRT

When you get 100% completion as well as getting bodyguards you will also get a T shirt which reads "I completed Vice City and all I got was this lousy T-Shirt".

SCARFACE REFERENCES

There is a secret apartment that you can enter in the game which is a Scarface reference. Inside the apartment there is a suitcase full of coke and a bloodstained bathtub complete with a chainsaw. In fact a lot of things in the game are nodded towards the movie Scarface. Diaz's mansion is a replica of Tony Montanas and the final mission of the game you have to fight off invaders outside of the office on the staircase. The Malibu is also very similar to the Babylon which is the nightclub from the movie Scarface.

GTA III MOVIE SET

In the movie set you can find an actual street from GTA III along with many other movie props.

Ok thats all from me reporting from Vice City check back next week for more posts and have a great weekend.

BOARD GAME MOVIE SPECIAL

So recently in cinemas we saw the release of Battleship which was the first movie (to my knowledge) to be based on a board game. Over the years there have been countless horrendous movies based on video games  due to lack of creativity and new ideas when it comes to making new films. When I saw that Battleship had been released as an actual movie it got me thinking. I thought long and hard about other board games that could make their way to the silver screen. Here are some of my ideas along with movie posters I have made.

MONOPOLY

Wall Street style movie about a business man who is trying to buy properties all over the city. Ends up going to jail for no apparent reason and a giant shoe takes over the city. Can he and his trusty car make a comeback?

BUCKAROO

The heart wrenching story of Fernando the Mexican donkey. His cruel owners balance items on him all the time for the towns amusement until one day he loses it and kicks everyone to death.

HUNGRY HIPPOS

A savage pack of hippos invade a lakeside town during spring break. By far the goriest of the bunch with the tongue in cheek type violence you received in the Piranha movies.

CLUEDO

Most successful of the bunch due to great casting. Cluedo is a sophisticated and sexy murder mystery with all the trimmings. The end climax has movie goers world wide on the edge of their seats. Multiple directors cuts are made on dvd.

MOUSETRAP

Family comedy about an eccentric genius who wins the invention of the year by creating his own giant mouse trap. Flops big time on the box office and becomes cult within a few years.

Well thats all I can be bothered to do today and if anyone from hollywood is reading this get at me I am a fucking genius when it comes to shit film ideas!

GAMING: FRIDAY THE 13TH ON NINTENDO

I must admit it has been very hard for me to write articles about the summer as the weather here in the UK is beyond a joke. However today is Friday the 13th so there is no better time for me to review the Friday the 13th video game released on Nintendo back in the day. The game was released by LJN, a toy company which made some great WWF figures but also some of the worst video games based on movies.

I have ranted about this company and their shit games over the years (check the bottom of this article to read related articles) but this one may be the shittest of them all. So Friday the 13th movies were about the deranged killer who once a year rose from the depths of Camp Crystal Lake to dismember anyone having sex or smoking weed in the local area. It just has a Nintendo game written all over it.. doesn't it?

The game was a power play one which meant you could use your Nintendo Power Glove which was about as use-full as kicking the fucking TV screen in to turn it on.

One thing that spoils a logo or title screen of a video game is the shitty little "TM" symbol. Are LJN that proud of the fact they got the trademark for maybe one of the worst games ever made. Thats a silly question really, of course they were. This above screen shot maybe the best part of the game.

The game is a side scroller which takes place on this big map of locations. However all the locations look the fucking same and the giant map only serves to cause confusion and to flesh out one of the most shallow games ever created in terms of creativity and depth. The game is atrocious and all the tasks involve visiting cabins and doing shitty mundane tasks like lighting fireplaces and more often than not.. getting lost.

I kinda think this may have been an attempt at a WIzard of Oz game as all you do is walk yellow bricked fucking roads the whole time. Maybe they lost the license to that and just stuck Jason Voorhees in there as a lazy attempt for a Friday the 13th game. That theory makes more sense than anything else in this game. One thing sad that strikes me while playing this awful game is that someone, somewhere back in the day got this shitty game as a main Christmas gift.

I did get to the first Jason encounter but lost the battle. I must say after completing and reviewing many LJN Nintendo games of movies I have wasted too many hours of my life which I will never get back. I am not going to make the same mistake anymore and I can pretty much say that Friday the 13th is a total bag of shit and dont ever play this game.

MOVIES: MANHUNTER

Five years before the release of Silence of the Lambs Dr Hannibal Lector made his on screen debut in the movie Manhunter. Manhunter is based on the book Red Dragon by Thomas Harris and directed by Michael Mann. The movie was called Manhunter to avoid any confusion about this film sounding a Kung Fu film with the name Red Dragon.

So the movie is about a detective name Will Graham who has recently put away the serial killer Dr Hannibal Lector. When Graham is at work he delves deep into the psychology of serial killers to the point that he mentally becomes them. After delving deep into the thoughts of Hannibal Lector he suffers an emotional breakdown after the case.

Months later he is asked to go back to work to catch a vile serial killer who has been labeled the "tooth fairy" by the press and police.

However this time around he enlists the help of the man he has just put away.. Dr Hanniball Lector.

Now this movie is no where near as good as Silence of the Lambs but is much better than Red Dragon. The performances in the movie are all very powerful and convincing.

Brian Cox's incarnation of Hanniball Lector is extremely powerful (even though he is only in about two scenes in the whole movie) and does a great job. Not as good as Anthony Hopkins but come on that is some act to follow. The movie is shot beautifully with a strong use of color which is highlighted in very strong neon blues and greens.

Manhunter is one of the better films I have rented recently and I really recommend that you see this movie. If you are a Thomas Harris fan then it is a must see. The movie has also got a fantastic soundtrack which makes a good use of Iron Butterfly's Inda gadda da vidda. The director is the same man who brought us Miami Vice and is filmed in a very similar way.
